Azerbaijan keen to foster closer ties with Sarawak

KUCHING: The Azerbaijani government is interested to foster closer ties with business players and universities in Sarawak.

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Irfan Davudov, said that Sarawak is among the most important states in terms of economic development.

“Sarawak is among the most important states in terms of economic development, and my visit here is to establish closer relations with business players and universities in Sarawak,” he said.

He made the remarks when speaking to the media after paying a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today (May 10).

During the meeting, Davudov said, he discussed with Abang Johari on the 2024 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP 29), which will convene in November 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

“We expect a large delegation from Malaysia to participate in this very important event, as well as a delegation from Sarawak to join,” he said.

He added that there are excellent potential in terms of economic relations development between Sarawak and Azerbaijan in the fields of education, financial relations, cultural exchange, and so forth.

“As an ambassador, it is my duty and pleasure to contribute to the development of these relations,” he said.
