Azian Osman is new Energy Commission chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) chairman Datuk Azian Osman has been appointed as the new chairman of the Energy Commission effective yesterday, replacing Datuk Ir. Ahmad Fauzi Hassan who retired on March 31, 2020.

The commission in a statement yesterday, said the appointment was in accordance with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s approval.

“The Commission welcomes Datuk Azian’s leadership to elevate the Commission’s agenda to the next level. Also a big thank you to former chairman Datuk Ir. Ahmad Fauzi for his service from April 1, 2018 until March 31, 2020.

“Throughout the duration of his service, he has contributed a lot with his invaluable experience and ideas in achieving aspirations, vision and mission of the Energy Commission,” read the statement.

Azian received his Bachelor of Laws (Honours) LLB from Universiti Malaya in 1985 and began his career as an advocate and solicitor in 1986.

He has vast experience in the legal profession as well as managing a company. He was also a member of the Bar Council’s Disciplinary Board from 2002 to 2004 and spent four years as Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (RISDA) member of the authority.

Apart from SPNB, Azian has also served Giatmara Malaysia and a member of Tekun Nasional’s board of trustees for four years from 2015. – Bernama
