WHILE acknowledging that he is a greenhorn in many aspects, Azizul Annuar Adenan (GPS-Tanjong Datu) stressed that one thing is for sure – his love for Sarawak is unquestionable.

“It is on this premise that I will, from the perspective of the younger generation, contribute to how Sarawak can further develop not only in a physical aspect but in a more holistic approach. After all, we are the custodians of future Sarawakians,” he said.

He was speaking during the motion of appreciation to the Head of State (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud on yesterday.

Reflecting on his late father Pehin Sri Adenan Satem’s maiden speech as Muara Tuang assemblyman 43 years ago in 1979, Azizul said he had spoke for three hours touching on a wide range of matters, especially on government ministries, departments and agencies.

He highlighted that one thing that struck the most was on how much his late father loved Sarawak.

“He said ‘I love this country. I love, in particular the state of Sarawak, I love the people of this country. I love the mountains and the hills, the rivers and the seas. Love the traditions of this country. This is my home, I am proud of it and I am a citizen of this country’.

“As such, if only as an anak Sarawak I have every right to feel and share some concerns, to have some interest and to speak out on matters relating to my state and in particular to my constituents.”

At the same time, he also expressed his appreciation to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for opening the doors to the younger generation to participate in the highest law-making body in Sarawak.

“This will allow us to learn and grow to work hand in hand with the leaders of Sarawak.”
