KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Backbenchers Club hopes that under the new federal government, it will continue the work of the previous government in returning Sarawak’s rights as enshrined under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Federal Constitution (FC) and the Inter-Government Committee (IGC) Report 1962.

Its deputy chairperson Aidel Lariwoo said it also wants to see the new federal government to be united and has the people’s best interest at heart.

“We congratulate Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri for being appointed as the ninth prime minister and we are confident of his abilities in leading the nation amid these turbulent times.

“We hope that with his leadership, we are able to combat the raging Covid-19 pandemic as well as facilitate economic recovery,” he said, while congratulating Ismail Sabri for his appointment as the new prime minister today (Aug 20).

At the same time, he said the club fully supports the decision by GPS state coalition led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari which helped stabilise the political situation in the nation.

“We also thank the previous Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government which had delivered to the people of Sarawak – protecting the state’s interests and ensuring development in these shores,” he said.

Aidel also called upon all Malaysians to give Ismail Sabri the chance to form his Cabinet and lead the government, and for other political parties to stop politicking and play their role in aiding Malaysia’s recovery from Covid-19.
