Backlog reason for high 4,709 new cases

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 4,709 new positive Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (Sept 15), bringing the state’s tally to 167,012 cases.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) explained that the high number of cases was due to a cumulative backlog of tests from Sept 10 to 14. 

It said 4,702 of the new cases or 99.85 percent were in Categories 1 (no symptom) or 2 (mild symptom), while seven cases or 0.15 percent were in Categories 3 (lung infection), 4 (lung infection and requires oxygen), or 5 (lung infection and requires ventilator).

“A total of 3,790 cases or 80.48 percent are in Category 1 and 912 cases or 19.37 percent are in Category 2,” SDMC said in a statement on Wednesday.

Category 3 and 4 recorded one case each whereas five cases or 0.11 percent are in Category 5.

Kuching district accounted for 1,866 of the new cases reported, followed by Samarahan (417), Bintulu (369), Sibu (347), Serian (289), Simunjan (227), Bau (192), Asajaya (129), Miri (117), Betong (108), Mukah (72), Pakan (67), Saratok (63), Pusa (61), Sarikei (53), Sri Aman (49), Kapit (48), Subis (46), Tebedu (41), Limbang (30), Selangau (20), Lawas (17), Belaga (13), Lubok Antu (11), Tatau (10), Sebauh (10), Dalat (10), Beluru (six), Meradong, Kanowit and Julau (four each), Matu (three), while Lundu, Telang Usan and Bukit Mabong recorded two cases respectively.

SDMC said that five districts, namely Daro, Song, Tanjung Manis, Marudi, and Kabong recorded zero case.
