SARATOK: The upgrading of a 16.9-kilometer road to Kampung Kupang here is expected to commence in October once the tender process is complete.

Saratok MP Datuk Ali Biju said the project to upgrade the gravel road has been eagerly awaited by the local residents for a long time.

“This is the main access to the village and its completion will reduce travel time for road users.

“Therefore, I will always monitor and liaise with the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) as the implementing agency to ensure that this project runs smoothly, and most importantly is completed on schedule,” he said in a statement yesterday (Apr 24).

He explained that the project under the Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) is estimated to be worth RM90 million.

“It involves upgrading the road to Kampung Kupang from Bajau with a distance of 16.9 kilometres and includes construction of three small bridges.

“It also includes the access to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Entebu and four longhouses, namely Rumah Panjang Ganing, Rengan, Lakon and Anau.

“I am confident that the implementation of this road upgrading will not only benefit the residents but also smallholders in the surrounding areas,” he said.
