Bakul kasih for Kampung Muara Tebas fishermen

KUCHING: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak headquarters together with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) Sarawak  presented kitchen supplies or ‘bakul kasih’ to the maritime community of Kampung Muara Tebas today (Apr 13).

MMEA Sarawak director First Admiral Zin Azman Md Yunus officiated at the ceremony,  witnessed by  JAKIM Sarawak Human Development Division deputy director Ustaz Mohd Zaki Jaafar.

The event took place  at the Tun Abang Salahuddin Maritime Complex (KOMTAS) in Muara Tebas.

It aimed to ease the burden of local fishermen ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Thirty-five recipients, who were class A fishermen and sheltered under PNK Sri Muara, received baskets that consisted of rice, cooking oil, sugar and other basic kitchen food items worth RM100.

Other than that, the agency also donated five fishing nets as gifts to the community of Kampung Pinang, Kota Samarahan.

Zin donated the nets to Kampung Pinang Penghulu Semawi Sulong at the exhibit block of the complex,   witnessed by MMEA deputy director of management Yusof Mok Mohamad Generawi.

The fishing nets were seized during arrests in 2020 and 2021.

The agency has received a court forfeiture order   for the nets which were approved as gifts by the Ministry of Finance.
