Balingian community leaders attend empowerment programme

BALINGIAN: Some 100 community leaders here attended a community policing @ empowerment programme on Thursday (Oct 14).

Its objective, among others, was to empower community leaders to monitor, coordinate and arrange activities at their respective areas.

It was also to increase awareness about the dangers of Covid-19, and to enhance compliance of virus prevention standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The half-day programme featured talks on current issues presented by variouus government agencies.

Mukah Division Resident and District Office discussed on community involvement in managing Covid-19 in longhouse areas, while the divisional health office touched on Covid-19, quarantine, self-discipline and vaccine.

The police talked about compliance with SOPs at community-level, while Mukah Veterinary Services Department presented topics on rabies and African swine fever.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi, who officiated at the closing of the programme, said he hoped that community leaders would gain knowledge from the programme, and practice it for the benefit the community.
