Balingian team crowned King of the River

John Sikie took a photo with Team N58 Balingian who won the title of King of the River in the Tatau Mini Regatta 2023 in conjunction with the Tatau Festival 2023.

TATAU: Kasihnya Warisan belonging to the Balingian team was crowned King of the River in the Tatau Mini Regatta held in conjunction with the Tatau Festival 2023.

It emerged victorious in the 30 Men’s River Raja Sungai Paddlers category to take home RM16,000 in cash and the championship trophy.

The prize was presented by the Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai to the team manager, Ardyman Matan.

Cahaya Kekal, another boat registered under Team Balingian had to settle for second place and received RM5,000 in cash and a trophy.

Third place was won by the Waris Bujang Vaie team who took home RM3,000 and a trophy.

Meanwhile, Balingian Jati owned by TLB Balingian and BDA Bintang Terang Satu finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Also present to watch the boat race were Sikie’s wife Datin Melia Gelen, Bintulu Development Board Deputy Chairman Dato Haidar Khan Asghar Khan and BDA General Manager Datu Muhamad Yakup Kari.

The Tatau Mini Regatta, held after 13 years, was one of the 45 events included in the 2023 Tatau Festival.

The Tatau Festival is an annual event in the Sarawak tourism calendar organised by the Tatau District Office in collaboration with the Bintulu Development Board and supported by 30 associations, clubs and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
