SIBU: The army has installed barbed wire fencing in two locations in Sibu Jaya to ensure effective control of the movement of residents following the imposition of enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from tomorrow (Feb 12) until Feb 25.

The EMCO will involve flats and Town Villa houses in the housing area.

The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) First Infantry Division in a statement said 24 personnel from the Third Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (3 RRD) were deployed to the two locations to assist in the installation of the fencing today (Feb 11).

“Barbed wire fencing was put up in the area following the declaration of CMCO in the two locations from Feb 12 to 25,” it added.

The move was one of the measures taken to tighten security in the housing area which has been declared as a Covid-19 high-risk area.

The MAF said it was ever ready to assist the Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) in ensuring an effective control of people’s movement to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the housing area.

He said the decision was necessary following the high number of Covid-19 cases there.
