MIRI: A barbecue activity nearly burned down Rumah Jerlung at Jalan Batu Niah here, on Sunday (June 6).
A spokesperson from the State Fire Department operations centre said they received a distress call around 11.50 am and despatched firemen from Batu Niah station to the scene.
Upon arriving, the team found that the fire had been successfully extinguished by the villagers.
The blaze only damaged a portion of the longhouse’s kitchen. There were no reports of casualties or injuries in the incident.
The investigation found that the cause of the fire started from a barbecue session during which embers fell on a mattress which led to the fire.
