LUNDU: Some 30,000 people are expected to attend the Batang Kayan Regatta Festival 2022, which is currently taking place at Lundu Waterfront from Sept 23 to 25.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the event, which would decide who will go home as King of the Batang Kayan River, was a major attraction.

“This will boost up the tourist numbers. The involvement of youths in various government activities or programmes is widely encouraged and critical in youth development,” he added.

The festival’s main goal, according to a press statement, was to encourage tourism in Lundu District while also boosting the socioeconomy of the local communities.

Abdul Karim also witnessed the handover of a memorandum of understanding by YAST Group to 10 strategic partners in the district, including stakeholders in the tourism sector such as hoteliers, homestays, NGOs, and government organisations.
