BAU: Narcotic police picked up two men in an operation codenamed Ops Tapis at separate locations after they tested positive for drugs, last night (Oct 8).

An eight-man team carried out the operation from 9pm to 12.30am to detect individuals believed to be involved in drug activities around the district.

Bau OCPD DSP Poge Nyaon said the team carried out inspections in Bau town, Jambusan small town and Siniawan town.

“In Jambusan, a 33-year-old labourer was detained near a budget hotel. Meanwhile, in Bau town, the team arrested a 28-year-old unemployed who was giving reasons to avoid being arrested.

“Physical inspections found nothing illegal on both men. They were later brought back to Bau narcotic police office where they were found positive for drugs,” he said, adding that both men were trying to avoid being interrogated by police.

Investigations found that the men, who had previous records, were abusing drugs due to peer influence and the supplies were obtained from friends.

The case is being investigated under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and if convicted, the suspects can be fined up to RM5,000 or sentenced to a jail term up to two years and ordered to undergo supervision up to three years under Section 38B of the same Act.

Poge stated that in Tasik Biru, a number of people were also inspected and advised not to be in the company of individuals found to be drug abusers.
