A human trafficking attempt by a local man involving four Indonesians was thwarted by Bau police.

BAU: Police foiled a human trafficking attempt by a local involving four illegal immigrants, here.

The incident happened around 5.45am when the car transporting the illegals was stopped for inspection at a police roadblock near Kampung Suba Buan, here on Thursday (Feb 10).

Bau OCPD DSP Poge Nyaon said the car was driven by a 25-year-old man with four Indonesian passengers, including three women.

“The 34-year-old Indonesian has an Indonesian identity card while, the women aged 22 to 50 years, are holders Indonesian passports.

“None of the passports had verification stamps by either the Indonesian or Malaysian Immigration Department,” he said.

Police seized the vehicle, the immigrants’ identification documents and seven phones.

The. suspects were brought to the police station for questioning.

Poge said the local suspect was being investigated under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007.

The immigrants are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

Police also arrested a 66-year-old local man believed to be the handler who had earlier instructed the 25-year-old suspect to pick up the immigrants.

He is being investigated under Section 26A of the ATIPSOM 2007.
