BAU: Bau District Council (MDB) has been urged to maintain a strong focus on cleanliness within the Bau area, particularly in public restrooms and toilets at coffee shops.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep stressed the significance of this at the official ceremony of the new wet market here on Friday (Feb 2).

He pointed out that over the past five years, Bau has successfully maintained its own five-star public restroom.

Henry provided an example of a coffee shop in Penang with a five-star-rated toilet, noting the importance of cultivating habits to ensure cleanliness.

“If we do not nurture that type of habit, our customers would not be interested in coming to the coffee shop, despite how good our food is.”

He continued by explaining the potential negative impact on businesses in the digital era.

“We should understand that this is the digital era; anytime a customer posts a video or photos on social media criticising how unhygienic our toilet is, it will go viral. This can ruin the image of our business, and we do not want that to happen.”

Addressing the issue further, the Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Maritime) expressed gratitude for the community in Bau being particularly vigilant about cleanliness in their premises.

“Whether it is a business premises, office, or food court, the community in Bau is very particular when it comes to cleanliness. A tidy premises holds the power to attract customers or visitors, allowing them to return to the space and enjoy a heightened level of comfort.”
