BAU: Several areas here are set to become prominent tourist attractions in the future.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said it was important for the locals and their leaders to look after the areas in order to attract visitors.

“I do hope that one day, this place will be one of the must visit place for tourists who landed in Kuching.

“The moment people come to Bau, those who are associated with the handicrafts industry as well as food industry will be able to benefit economically,” he assured.

Abdul Karim said this when officiating at the Tasik Biru-level Sarawak Youth Tour (Jelajah Belia Sarawak) at Kampung Skiat Baru multipurpose hall, here on Saturday.

He commended the Bidayuhs in the area, which he deemed to be quite progressive when it comes to tourism as well as its youth development.

He said the rich multicultural history of tourist gems in Bau alongside its interesting stories could also be a key in attracting more tourists to come to the area.

“If they want something very interesting, Bau has got so much (to offer)

“Only the products needed to be uplifted to meet the demands of tourists (who come here),” said Abdul Karim.

Citing an example of a lesser known gold mine located here, he said these are such things that could be probed into by his ministry, adding that it could be developed properly and be marketed as a tourist gem to outsiders.
