BDDA set to be main agent of change in Saratok

SARATOK: The Betong Divisional Development Agency (BDDA) will play a key role in revitalising and beautifying Saratok town.

Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said part of the the agency’s allocation for his constituency would go towards beautifying the town.

“We are studying the plan to beautify the town of Saratok, complete with new sports infrastructure and recreational facilities.

“In addition providing the best drainage system to overcome flash floods … on the banks of the river, there is a project to develop the landscape and repair the wharf for the convenience of residents,” he said.

He was speaking after attending a special meeting on the Saratok Town Square plan chaired by District Officer and Chairman of the Saratok District Council (MDS) Haron Mahidi together with Krian assemblyman Friday Belik.

He explained that the government will also upgrade the existing MDS stalls and markets.

Mohamad said Saratok as a developing district must grow over time to match its status.

“That’s why today we have a meeting like this to discuss the latest issues.

“Friday and I are adamant that any complaints from the community must be taken into account and appropriate action taken.

“Thus, all development plans in the Saratok area must be implemented carefully in order to provide comfort to the residents.

“We under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government are fortunate because there are many resources that can be used to develop rural areas.

“And I dare say BDDA will be the main proponent of Saratok’s change in the future,” he said.

He called on government agency staff to be creative and proactive in providing services to the community.
