KOTA SAMARAHAN: The people of Sarawak must continue to appreciate their independence and socio-economic development.

Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang said Sarawakians should be grateful that they are living in peace and unity despite being in a plural society.

“We are also grateful to the previous leaders, the Sarawak government, namely the Sarawak Coalition Party (GPS) under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and the federal government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and cabinet colleagues.

“We are grateful for the current and future development of Sarawak under the leadership of Abang Johari and GPS despite being hit by Covid-19 crisis but the people are always taken care of with full concern,” he said.

He said this at a press conference following the launch of ‘Sarawak Merdeka Dalam Malaysia Muara Tuang/Kota Samarahan Rally’ at Muara Tuang Service Centre, Marqas Operation First Response Team (FReT) in Desa Ilmu, yesterday evening (Sept 11).

Idris also said the community can work together and live in peace as one big family.

“Regardless of our race and religion, we all can live in a plural and peaceful state.

“So, it is not wrong if we show gratitude for achieving independence and we celebrate Malaysia Day with enthusiasm while adhering to the public health standard operating procedures (SOP),” he said.

Yesterday was also the completion of the Sarawak Merdeka Dalam Malaysia Muara Tuang/Kota Samarahan Rally programme in conjunction with the 64th Malaysia Day celebration at Kota Samarahan District Office.

“This celebration which is also subject to SOPs involved various agencies with all vehicles driven at a set distance.

“The rally was held yesterday because it is between National Day (Aug 31) and Malaysia Day (Sept 16),” he said.

At the same function, Idris also presented contributions to needy people and frontliners in Muara Tuang area.

About 1,400 packets of nasi briyani were distributed.
