KUCHING: Intellectual materials should be written using beautiful language, said Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak director Abang Haliman Abang Julai.

“New and young writers need to reinvent themselves in building and enhancing their creative identity.

“Writers should be brave and have the courage to change for the better,” he said in his speech during the Young Writers Week 2021 (Minggu Karyawan Muda) programme at Penview Hotel recently.

Abang Haliman also pointed out that young writers tend to neglect applying knowledge, culture, and sociology into their work.

He said this was because young writers were more focused in gaining popularity through sensational content.

“Writing requires huge efforts and writers have to plan ahead based on research mechanisms that will develop the readers’ thinking skills.

“Young writers must bear in mind that the content in their writing is vital for the development of our society,” he stressed.

On the programme organised by DBP, he said writers will be able to develop and enhance their writing skills.

“We hope that all writers can empower themselves to produce highly valued reading materials for readers,” he added.
