Huge piles of garbage improperly thrown by errant residents being cleared by waste management workers.

KUCHING: Dwellers of Batu Kawa are reminded to dispose of their rubbish responsibly to maintain the cleanliness of their area.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian expressed his disappointment on errant residents who threw their trash improperly without any regard for others.

“No matter how much the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and Trienekens have done for waste collection, the community residents must do their part.

“Otherwise, this indiscriminate disposal of rubbish around and outside the designated rubbish bin by recalcitrant offenders will recur.

“Worse still, this area (Rantau Panjang in Batu Kawa) is still classified as a rabies-infected zone,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (Sept 5).

Dr Sim said there had been various suggestions to put an end to the problem including the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) to curb such incident in the future.

“In the meantime, we need everyone to help not just to throw the rubbish into the bin but also to take photo of those culprits and share with MPP for compounds to be issued,” he said.

Dr Sim also thanked local community leader Kapitan Shwu Phin Voon for reporting the incident to the authorities and Trienekens for their prompt action to clean up the indiscriminately thrown garbage.
