KUCHING: Youth have been urged to be involved in volunteerism so that they can develop their character traits such as leadership skills.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman made the call at the closing of the “We Care, We Do, We Love” programme at Kampung Santubong on Sunday (Sept 13).

The programme was organised by the Kuching Welfare Volunteers Organisation (PSKK).

Abdul Rahman, who is also the Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply), pointed out that the Sarawak government under the leadership of Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, also paid special attention to volunteerism with the establishment of Sarawak Volunteers.

“Since a long time ago, we have been encouraging everyone in the community to be involved in volunteering.

We want to continue this kind of culture,” he said.

Also present at the function were PSKK chairman, Zakiah Ahmad, Kuching Division Social Welfare Department officer, Fazilla Suhaili, Kampung Santubong Penghulu Suhaili Kifli, Kampung Santubong Ketua Kaum (community leader), Fatimah Hazemi and Santubong Police Station chief Sub Inspector Sulaiman Meng.
