KUCHING: While the Gawai Dayak celebrations are more lively this year, Sarawakians must nevertheless follow all COVID-19 guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) imposed by the government.

According to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, with our country transitioning to the endemic phase, economic reopening and movement control relaxation, this year’s Gawai Dayak celebrations will undoubtedly be more boisterous than last year’s.

“Those who will be commemorating Gawai Dayak, take advantage of this occasion to return to your villages or longhouses and celebrate this festival with your family and relatives in a joyful atmosphere.

“Of course, your homecoming will please your parents and relatives,” he said at Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri Persatuan Anak Jati Lawas at Imperial Hotel here, yesterday.

He also hoped that the spirit of the Gawai celebration would help to strengthen good relations among people of all races, regardless of religious views, culture or origin.

“Our state has developed a comprehensive Post-COVID Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 plan to revitalise our economy, focusing on economic prosperity, social inclusiveness and environmental sustainability.

“Therefore, let us all work together to ensure that PCDS 2030 achieves its goals and that we acquire the status of a developed and high-income state by 2030.

“May we all be under God’s protection, granted good health and kept safe throughout this Gawai celebration.

“Remain safe and healthy. Selamat Hari Gawai, Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai,” he pointed out.
