KANGAR: The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail has directed the people to practice moderation while respecting the existing differences to avoid any issue cropping up especially concerning religion and race. He said such issues could be easily exploited to create quarrels and conflicts by interested parties. “Don’t be too obsessed with a particular opinion to the extent of being willing to commit acts that can jeopardise solidarity, harmony, conciliation and prosperity of the people,” he said when officially opening the Second Term Sitting of the 14th Perlis State Legislative Assembly, here yesterday.

The Ruler also took a serious view on the widespread slander being practiced by the people and the attempts by certain parties who abused the social media to spread seditious elements, slander and extremist ideology. “Do not react easily on any news or information received without first checking and ensuring their validity.

“Take proactive action immediately in handling sedition and slander because it is feared that any delay in taking necessary action could lead the nation towards conflicts that would result in losses faced by everyone,” the Ruler said.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin further advised interested parties to adopt mature politics and not ignore their responsibilities, trust and role in developing the state and nation. He said politics should be used as the best platform and method to prosper the nation and state so that everyone could benefit and share the prosperity in a fair and equitable manner.

Meanwhile, he called on the state government to spend according to priority and to give focus on programmes and projects that would give a major and direct impact to the people and thus benefiting the target groups. “It cannot be denied that the state has limited resources and could not meet the expenditure to push Perlis ahead.

“However, I am glad that the State government has a creative vision and work closely with the Federal government in creating and developing projects that have high impact,” he added. – Bernama
