KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said there is more to fire safety than just having having fire extinguishers at home.

People must not only take safety precautions but also have the necessary knowledge on handling fires, he said.

“For instance, when celebrating Hari Raya, the public must be fully aware of the risk of playing with firecrackers,” he said.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Local Government and Housing said this after switching on the decorative lights at the famous cat statue in conjunction with Wesak Day 2022 at Jalan Padungan on Monday (May 10) evening.

He reminded the public to not be complacent when playing with firecrackers or fireworks especially during festive seasons.

“The Fire Department (Bomba) has programmes that are beneficial to the public.

“Bomba’s programme involves either going to longhouses, to the village, spending time with the community on fire prevention which is very important and helpful,” he said.
