SIMANGGANG: The people must think rationally when it comes to the choice of electing their leaders.

This is because by choosing the wrong leaders or people’s representatives will cause a great loss in terms of allocations provided by the government led by Gabung Parti Sarawak (GPS). These allocations are only given to the elected representatives from GPS.

Among the allocations provided for Sarawakians are the annual RM5 million for rural transformation project (RTP), RM2 million for minor rural project (MRP) and RM1 million for Home Improvement Assistance, said Simanggang assemblyman, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.

He said this when officiating at the ceremony for Community Building Programme by Sri Aman District Council (MDSA), which was held at Rumah Grain, San Munggor in Sri Aman on Sunday (Dec 6).

Among items included in the programme were a talk on fire prevention and demonstration of fire extinguishing process by Bangga Baie from Sri Aman fire station. There was also a talk on rabies by Fiona Bunu Joseph Lepa from Health Environment Section of MDSA.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Anthony Abell Chendan stated that the programme was organised as a platform to unite the people with the concept of going down to the ground to present the policy of the current government supported by the four component parties that formed the GPS as well as holding activities that require participants’ cooperation.

Meanwhile, Sri Aman’s deputy Resident Elvis Didit reminded longhouse chiefs not to choose the people’s representative based on emotions. He pointed out that the Simanggang assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden is very diligent and has performed beyond expectation; thus there is no reason to change.

“What is happening in the Simanggang area is the action of the opposition who want to seize the seat for its own interest.

“They actually know there is development in the Simanggang area but they deliberately manipulate saying there is no development.

“They should support the development plan instead of hindering the smooth development. If calculated from simple mathematics, there is no possibility that the 72 out of 82 state seats can be defeated and this means the state government is still expected to continue ruling.

“When this happens the areas represented by the opposition will be left behind and this will be to the detriment of the people in the long run,” said Elvis.

From another aspect of fire safety, Harden in his speech said he supported the council’s action to make the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) a strategic partner when conducting the programme.

He added that the agency was important in giving talks on fire prevention and a demonstration of proper fire extinguishing procedures.

Furthermore, Harden also presented the cheques for MRP allocation for Simanggang constituency, from the state government amounting to RM3,000 and RM2,000 for the Women’s Bureau.

Also presented were Kenyalang Gold Card (KCG) to the recipients and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) member cards that were approved.
