Be rational, Umno told

Datuk Idris Buang

KUCHING: The United Malay National Organisation (Umno) was told to listen to reason and put the country first as it navigates itself in a collision course against nemesis-turned-ally Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) information chief Datuk Idris Buang said Umno should put the interest of the nation ahead of itself.

“Be rational. It should be nation or country first not the party,” he said when contacted today.

He was commenting on the recent development surrounding Umno which was reported by the national media to be seeking to quit the Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government, effectively causing it to collapse.

Idris said Umno should know better and not behave in a similar manner which the previous Pakatan Harapan (PH) had embroiled in a constant power tussle.

“If they behave like the old PH, they are no different,” the Muara Tuang assemblyman said.

Asked on which side of the fence Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) should be on amid the collision between the two Malayan-based parties, Idris said, for him personally, it won’t matter by then.

“As long as we don’t end up working with the Democratic Action Party (DAP),” he said.

Recently, national daily Utusan Malaysia reported that 189 out of 191 Umno divisions had expressed their objections to working with Bersatu for the 15th general election (GE15).
