KUALA LUMPUR: People should be responsible for their actions on the social media and stop uploading unnecessary sensitive posts, said former president of Service Civil International Malaysia, Stephen Nah.
He said people should just upload or leave comments about positive things that unite Malaysians, if they want to strive forward as a nation.
According to Nah who is also the organising chairman of the United Nations (UN) International Day of Peace 2019 Kuala Lumpur held here today, the government must also do all it can to make sure the perpetrators who cause racial tensions are severely punished so that they are held responsible for their actions.
“We should use it (social media) in a positive way, people should always be respectful of each other. We must encourage people to talk more positive things,” he told Bernama here today.
Since 1981, the International Day of Peace has been observed around the world each year on Sept 21, with the objective of achieving peace above all differences and to building a culture of peace.
Nah said this year, the International Day of Peace in Malaysia is being celebrated at Pure Life Society with the theme ‘Climate Action for Peace’ in collaboration with the National Unity and Integration Department, UN Malaysia, Health Ministry, Department of Environment) and 30 non-governmental organisations. – Bernama
