KUCHING: Pet owners are told to be responsible to take care of their pets and not dump them if they had fallen sick or are no longer adorable.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said that lately, the council had received a number of applications from the public who wanted to surrender their “unwanted” dogs.

“We will need the Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) and those who are able to assist us on this matter.

“We are trying to get the actual figures and see how many have been applying,” he said in a press conference last Tuesday.

He pointed out that when anyone decides to take up responsibility to own a pet, they must be ready to take care of them throughout their lives.

Wee stressed that the pets should not be thrown away if the owners no longer find them appealing or if they had fallen sick.

“It is just like a marriage, we have to grow old together.

“Please do not just dump or surrender them. That is not the way to treat pets,” he said.
