SIBU: Malaysian singer Nor Ashima Ramli, popularly known as Baby Shima, has firmly denied accusations that she was the subject of a police report lodged by a veteran Iban artiste over the re-recording of the song ‘Bekikis Bulu Betis’.

According to the singer, she had obtained permission before re-recording the song.

“Many have spread false accusations against Shima, tagging me and claiming I’m being sued.

“Sorry, guys, before its release, Shima sought permission for the song ‘Berkikis Bulu Betis’. You can’t just release it without permission,” she said in her Facebook post on Sunday (May 5).

Baby Shima’s rendition of the song was released last year.

On Saturday (May 4), Penghulu Andrewson Ngalai Asom, the singer and original creator of the song ‘Bekikis Bulu Betis,’ expressed dismay over a company’s unauthorised recording and reproduction of the song’s video clip, which was subsequently uploaded on social media.

Ngalai said that the company did not seek his permission beforehand.

He stressed that his lawyer would investigate and ensure accountability.

“They will be held accountable under the Copyright Act. Failure to address this would endorse piracy.

“I urge those involved to remove all unauthorised recordings from social media or face legal consequences,” he warned.
