KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) via its radio station, Bernama Radio and its subsidiary, Uxera Sdn Bhd yesterday presented contributions to Rumah Bakti Darussalam in Taman Gombak under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
Assistance in the form of school bags and shoes as well as stationery was handed over by Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang to eight permanent residents of the welfare home aged between seven and 13.
Bernama also made a cash contribution to the management of the home, represented by Pertubuhan Pembangunan Insan Darussalam Malaysia secretary general, Mohd Pitry Bahrim.
Rumah Bakti Darussalam which is run by Pertubuhan Pembangunan Insan Darussalam Malaysia, was set up in early 2018 with a donated home in Taman Gombak.
Also present at the ceremony were Bernama chief executive officer Nurini Kassim, Bernama Radio chief operating officer Azlan Idris and Uxera Sdn Bhd CEO, Muniyati Muhamad.
Azman said Bernama has various media channels including radio and television to highlight such homes so that more members of the community could donate to them.
He also proposed that Rumah Bakti Darussalam be made an adopted home of the news agency.
“Bernama has 1,000 employees and if each of them donates RM1 a month, we will be able to collect RM1,000 worth of donation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nurini hoped other departments under Bernama would also participate in such welfare activities to assist the less fortunate.
“This is a way to help those who are not so fortunate and I hope all Bernama staff will take part in such programmes,” she said.
On behalf of Bernama Radio, Azlan said this continuous effort is the start of the CSR programme for 2019 and hoped such efforts would extend to other states including Sabah and Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Mohd Pitry expressed his gratefulness to Bernama and said the cost of operating the welfare home was quite high at about RM960 a month for each student.
“We would be very happy if corporate bodies were prepared to become permanent sponsors of the welfare home so that we could carry out our daily activities,” he said. – Bernama
