BETONG: More tourists will come to Betong due to its myriad of attractions, according to Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

The Deputy Premier highlighted that the recent construction of the Pan Borneo Highway has made Betong easily reachable.

Furthermore, the town and its surrounding areas are now seamlessly linked via internal roads.

Uggah also mentioned that by early next year, the Bebuling STOLport in Spaoh will be operational.

“This airport will provide an even faster link to the wider world,” he said at the closing ceremony of the fifth Layar Cycling Carnival at Layar Junction here yesterday (Sept 3).

The three-day cycling event, which started on September 1, saw participation from 200 cyclists including 20 international participants from 40 teams.

Highlighting Betong’s tourism potential, Uggah praised its magnificent landscapes, untouched jungles, diverse ecosystem, and vibrant culture.

“Many of our longhouses, like the century-old one in Samu, offer visitors a unique glimpse into our traditions,” he added.
Uggah, who is also the Bukit Saban assemblyman, said that Betong will soon explore agro-tourism as a specialised attraction.
