KUCHING: Scouts in Sarawak are tipped to have better career development prospects with the collaboration of Sarawak Scout Association and various other agencies.

Sarawak Chief Scout Commissioner Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan Sirat and a team of senior scout commissioners paid a courtesy call on State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Khirudin Drahman last Saturday (Oct 24).

Zainuddin said the purpose of the meeting was to set up a collaboration to train senior scouts to acquire firefighting as well as essential emergency and rescue skills and knowledge.

“The training will familiarise the scouts, especially the senior scouts to not just the prerequisites for earning their proficiency badges in firefighting but also open an opportunity for them to take it as their future careers,” he said.

He hoped that the joint effort will provide firefighting and rescue specialists as trainers in order to produce scouts who are equipped in handling any emergency situation.

“More specific programmes on this collaboration will be worked in due course when the training takes off after the Covid-19 pandemic subsides with a thorough study of the requirement set out by the Scout Training Syllabi,” he said.

Also present during the courtesy call were State Scout deputy chief commissioners John Lim and Methodious MacDonald.
