DARO: The Muara Lassa Bridge ground-breaking ceremony here yesterday is seen as a sign of better days to come in terms of connectivity.

According to Semop assemblyman Abdullah Saidol, the bridge is a crucial link for the coastal areas long awaited by residents of Matu Daro, Pulau Bruit and Tanjung Manis.

“This coastal network is just as important as the Pan Borneo network because the area it serves is populous and designated as a fruit basket by the state government.

“Not far from here is the Tanjung Manis Port, the bridge will serve this port where farm and sea products will be prepared for shipment overseas.

“Thus, today’s launch signals a brighter economic future for communities here,” said Abdullah.

Kuala Rajang assemblyman Datuk Len Talif expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Opening for agreeing to develop the area including building the bridge.

“As one of the pioneers in the development of Tanjung Manis, I consider this project a “game changer”.

“I foresee greater movement of people and goods once the bridge is built, surely the local economy will increase.

Tanjung Manis MP Yusuf Abd Wahab, meanwhile, said: “At present, getting to Pulau Bruit or Daro is a long journey, but the bridge will soon shorten that.

“If you live in the area, you sure know the inconvenience faced by the people without the bridge.

“People are excited. They are looking forward to greater mobility,” Yusuf said.
