Better internet speed for villagers

Dr Abdul Rahman (centre) inspects the upgrading work.

KUCHING: Villagers in Kampung Boyan, Gersik and Sourabaya can heave a sigh of relief as their dream of enjoying faster internet speed has been realised.

Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi revealed that Telekom Malaysia (TM) had installed fibre optic cables to enable the villagers to enjoy Unifi services.

He said better internet speed would make it easier for the villagers to market their products.

“These villagers are often visited by visitors due to many attractions such as kuih lapis, salted terubok fish and traditional cakes.

“Visitors who come will definitely send interesting pictures to friends or relatives who are outside,” he said when met on Wednesday after inspecting the upgrading of the internet facilities in one of the villages.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission), said students also required better internet speed and facilities to enable them to enjoy online learning.

He advised the villagers  to take good care of the fibre optic cables.

Also present were TM Sarawak general manager Jafer Sadig Abdul Lathiff, Gita police station chief ASP Mohamad Nizam Bujang and village heads.
