KUCHING: Residents of Kampung Bintawa Ulu here will have better road access when the current upgrading and repairing work is completed.
Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi paid a visit to Lorong 13, Kampung Bintawa Ulu to inspect the newly tar sealed road today.
“The state government has allocated funds for the construction of roads statewide, including districts and areas in Kuching.
“This project is also known as ‘Projek Rakyat’ and at DBKU (Kuching North City Hall) level, there is also funding received from the federal government, for (the) Road Record Information System (Marris) Project.
“With these two funds, the roads in the village can be built and upgraded,” he told the press after the visit.
He said some areas in Pantai Damai had been earmarked for road upgrading and construction.
“This is because the oldest roads in these villages are in bad conditions…most of the roads (built some 10 to 20 years ago) are damaged.”
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (DBKU and Islamic Affairs), mentioned that the new roads would be thicker and of higher quality, and he believed that they could last over 10 years, with only cars and motorcycles allowed only.
“For the Pantai Damai constituency, that is under the jurisdiction of DBKU, we emphasise on basic facilities like this – such as roads in housing areas or villages, implemented by DBKU and also other agencies such as Department of Irrigation and Drainage (drainage system upgrade).
“…as well as other agencies such as Village Committee (JKK) which helps to develop the various ‘Projek Rakyat’ in the villages and housing areas.”
