PADAWAN: If you want to know more about the Bidayuh culture, arts and traditional cuisines, how about visiting the Bidayuh Mystique Festival 2022, which kicked off today at St Paul’s Parish Hall, Bunuk?

At the three-day event, which ends on Sunday (31 July), besides admiring and buying traditional Bidayuh handcrafts such as bead necklaces, rattan baskets and attires, you can also try snacks such as fried plantains (pisang goreng), spring rolls, keropok lekor and others and various kinds of drinks. Local entrepreneurs run this handicraft, food and drink stalls.

Government and private agencies and departments are also holding exhibitions at the festival. They include National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), CIMB Bank, Sarawak Skills and the Ministry of Health (MoH), Agriculture Department Sarawak.

All in all, there are more than 20 stalls and booths for exhibitors and entrepreneurs.

Prizes up for grabs at the festival include kitchenware like rice cookers, an oven as well as a brand new motorcycle.

The festival also features a Beauty Pageant “Dayung Remus Mistik Bidayuh 2022”, a Bidayuh traditional dance competition, a traditional Bidayuh cuisine cooking competition, a poco-poco dance competition, as well as performances by invited Bidayuh artists.

The Bidayuh Mystique Festival 2022 is organised by Persatuan Segu Bunuk Penrissen.

 It was launched by the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah today.
