KUCHING: A 17-year-old was killed when a motorcycle on which she rode pillion collided head-on with a car at Mile 6 (KM9.6), Jalan Matang at 7.30am yesterday.

Chai Yenn Ling from Taman Malihah was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Padawan district police chief, Supt Aidil Bolhassan, said the 20-year-old male motorcyclist and Chai were travelling from Kuching to Matang when a car driven by a 71-year-old man from the opposite direction entered their lane.

“Chai was flung off the motorcycle by the impact and landed on the road while the motorcyclist who incurred severe head injuries was taken to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). The car driver was unhurt.

“Chai’s body was taken to SGH mortuary and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” said Aidil when contacted.

A spokesperson of the state Fire and Rescue Department said firefighters from Petra Jaya were also deployed to the scene of the accident.
