MARUDI: A pillion rider died after a motorcycle that he and a relative were on fell into a very large and deep pothole along the Long Bedian logging road on Sunday night.
According to Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, both were thrown off the bike.
The dead man has been identified as Baling Abung, 48, a Penan, while the rider, Frankie Akhing, 19, survived.
After the crash, Baling was rushed to Miri Hospital for medical treatment. He died 24 hours later due to the serious injuries he suffered.
Frankie is currently being treated at Long Bedian clinic.
“Prior to the incident, Baling and Frankie were heading towards Long Latie from Long Bedian, using the logging road at around 7pm,” said Alexson.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
