KUCHING: A Bill to amend the Sarawak Adoption Ordinance will be tabled during the next State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting.

The amendment is to include the adopting parents’ names in the child’s birth certificate.

This was revealed by Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Woman, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah after attending the Sarawak Women and Family Council (MWKS) roundtable meeting at Hilton Hotel here yesterday.

“Some adopting parents has requested for it,” she said, adding that Sabah and West Malaysia had included the adopting parents’ names in the child’s birth certificate.

“We are still getting input and working on it and hopefully we can table it in the coming DUN sitting,” she pointed out.

She revealed other focus areas discussed during the council’s meeting were the support system for working parents, economic empowerment for women, cybercrime, human trafficking, domestic violence against women and child, minimum marriage age and a strong family institution.
