Bintulu now a green zone

KUCHING: Residents of Bintulu can breathe a sigh of relief following the district’s declaration as a Covid-19 green zone on Sunday (Oct 24).

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the declaration was made after no new positive Covid-19 cases were detected in the district in the last 14 days.

“Kuching District remains a yellow zone with a total of 20 locally transmitted cases reported in the last 14 days. There is an increase of eight (8) local cases for Kuching district today (Oct 24).

“This brings the number of yellow zones to only one district while 39 other districts in Sarawak remain as green zones,” said SDMC in a statement on on Saturday (Oct 24).

On another note, the committee also informed that there are six new cases that have recovered and allowed to be discharged from the hospital.

“The new cases that have recovered and allowed to be discharged are one case from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and five cases from Bintulu Hospital.

“This brings the total number of positive Covid-19 cases that have recovered and allowed to be discharged to 727 people or 93.21 percent to date,” it said.

SDMC added that there are currently 34 Covid-19 patients receiving treatments at isolation wards in hospitals, namely 27 in SGH and seven in Miri Hospital.

“There are no Covid-19 patients receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) today (Oct 24) and no new death was reported where the total death toll remains at 19 people or 2.44 percent,” said the committee.

Additionally, 19 new persons-under-investigation (PUIs) have been reported and five PUI cases are still awaiting laboratory test results.
