KUCHING: Former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan celebrated his birthday early with members of the media fraternity at his residence here on yesterday (Sept 18).

The surprise birthday do was organised by his wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Wira Lorna Enan Muloon-Chan and was attended by over 50 people from various local media organisations, including media veterans.

“This is a really wonderful surprise for me because I have been wanting to meet you guys (media practitioners) again. We have always got on well together and we have been such wonderful friends.

“For that, I hope you will continue to do a good job for the state government. Sarawak is the best state and has always done its best for the people. And this is all thanks to the media, who have given wide coverage in getting the state government’s message through.

“I hope that this will not be the last time that we meet. My place is always open to you any time,” Dr Chan, who turns 86 on Sept 24, said.
