KUCHING: More good news for the people of Sarawak.

The state’s Bantuan Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 8.0 aid package worth RM285.47 million is expected to roll out soon.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said as promised, he would launch the eighth edition of the aid package.

“This involves non-cash assistance to further help reduce the burden of the people for the first six months of 2022,” he said during the Sarawak Civil Service Day 2022 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Tuesday (Jan 25).

He said the BKSS package was one of the largest by a state government in the country.

“This does not include a special allocation of more than RM91 million to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to cover the cost of tackling the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

As the head of a government that always caredabout the welfare and wellbeing of the people, Abang Johari said the state government understood the burdens and difficulties faced by the people during the pandemic.

“In order to reduce the impact of COVID-19 during 2020 and 2021, the state government has implemented seven assistance packages to the people, namely BKSS 1.0 to BKSS 7.0 with 30 programmes involving an expenditure of RM 5.3 billion,” he said.

He said if there was any lesson that could be learned from the pandemic, it was that no society could survive without reliable, resilient and sustainable government services.

“It’s the dedication and commitment of the state civil service which kept essential services uninterrupted and reachable during the pandemic.

“I want to say this: the Sarawak government under the GPS leadership is a trusted and reliable government that serves with passion, dedication and commitment for the benefit of the people, pandemic or no pandemic, and true to your motto – An Honor to Serve,” said Abang Johari.
