KUCHING: E-hailing drivers and driving school instructors will benefit from the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 6.0 package, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“The state government will provide financial assistance of RM500 on a one-off basis to e-hailing service drivers and driving school instructors.
“The payment to the group will be made through the Sarawak Pay application. This measure will involve the Sarawak government’s expenditure of RM1.6 million,” he said today.
Abang Johari said at the same time, the state government would be assisting local tourism industry players to stay afloat during the pandemic.
“The tourism industry is most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. This has caused travel agencies in Sarawak to lose their source of income due to the cancellation of visits by tourists and no bookings for the next six months.
“To ensure that the tourism industry survives this crisis and guarantee continuity of services in the tourism sector, the Sarawak government will provide financial assistance on a one-off basis,” he said.
He said RM3,000 will be given to each of the 216 licensed travel agencies in Sarawak while 568 licensed homestay operators will get RM600 each.
Meanwhile, a sum of RM1,500 will be given to each of the 219 tourist guides and 173 national park tour guides registered in Sarawak. A total of 99 licensed tourist vehicle drivers will also get RM500 each.
Abang Johari said the special grant will involve an expenditure of RM1.63 million.
