KUCHING: A sum of RM250,000 will be given to each state constituency in Sarawak to provide food aid to needy constituents during the movement control order (MCO).
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the allocation will be managed by state government agencies.
“To ensure the welfare of the people in terms of access to basic food supplies, the Sarawak government will implement a food basket programme for affected households throughout Sarawak.
“An allocation of RM250,000 will be distributed according to the respective state constituencies which will be managed by state government agencies.
“The Sarawak government will spend RM25.5 million to implement this initiative, including transportation costs,” he said when unveiling the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) 6.0 today.
Last year, during the first MCO, Abang Johari had announced RM16.4 million in food assistance for the poor in rural and urban areas to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
Sarawak has been placed under a second lockdown starting today until June 11.
