KUCHING: An unoccupied residence in a resettlement scheme at Jalan Stapok Utama here was destroyed by fire early today.
Firemen from Batu Lintang and Padungan stations swiftly responded to a distress call at 4.50 am.
By the time the firefighters arrived at the scene, the house was beyond salvation, and unfortunately, it also led to around five per cent damages to the ceiling of an adjacent house.
The firemen had to use water from a nearby fire hydrant to bring the flames under control at 5.21 am.
The operation ended at 6.19 am. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
