SIBU: The building, used as a rest house and storage for chicken feed, near SJK (C) Sung Sang at Jalan Salim Stabau, was destroyed by fire on today.

The Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an alert at 2.05 pm, prompting deployment of firefighters and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) team to the scene.

“Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the building was fully engulfed in flames,” said the department in a statement.

At the time of the blaze, no residents or caretakers were present. The fire was initially spotted by a neighbour living about 150 meters away, who noticed heavy smoke and tried to alert the property’s caretaker or owner.

Finding no one, the neighbour then called the fire department.

Firefighters had to forcibly enter the premises by breaking through the gate.

The team used a 200-foot hose line, a branch divider, two nozzles, and an additional hose line, drawing water from the fire engine to combat the fire.
