MARAN: This year’s Aidilfitri celebration will never be the same for a sundry shop owner after his beloved wife and three children were killed, while his two other children were seriously injured in a crash at KM161 of the East Coast Highway 1 (LPT1) on Sunday.

As painful as it seems, Mazlan Mohd Rashid, 54, said he would have to accept it as fate and pray that his wife and children who died in this holy month of Ramadan would be placed among the righteous. Mazlan, when met outside the Forensic Unit of the Jengka Hospital here, said his wife and five children left for Kuala Lumpur on Friday to shop for essentials for Aidilfitri preparations.

“The last time I heard from my wife was at 11pm yesterday when they were just about to leave for home at Taman Gemilang, Bandar Cheneh Baru, near Kemaman, after completing their shopping in the capital. “I was told that they also made a stop in Genting Highlands and Temerloh rest and service (R&R) area to rest before continuing their journey, prior to the accident,” said Mazlan who appeared calm while answering questions from the media.

However, his calm composure faltered when relatives and friends started to turn up to convey their condolences. In the 8.30am accident, the victims, Azian Abdullah, 50, Fatin Najwa Mazlan, 27, Fatin Nur Adriana, 15, and Mohamad Danish Najmi, 10, died on the spot after the Perodua Myvi car they were travelling in skidded and crashed into a guardrail.

Mazlan said his two other children, Mohd Shahrul Ikhram, 20, and Fatin Nur Athirah, 19, sustained serious injuries and currently receiving treatment at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital, Temerloh.

“My eldest daughter (Fatin Najwa) recently graduated with a degree in engineering from a private university and she was about to begin her career, but I think Allah loves her more.

“My youngest son (Mohamad Danish Najmi), before leaving for the trip asked me to take care and feed his cat and I will not forget his wish,” he said. The remains of the victims were buried in a single grave at the Bandar Cheneh Baru Muslim Cemetery in Kemaman at about 11pm. – Bernama
