MIRI: Miri hospital deputy director Dr Francis Heng Eng Khai has commended the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) for organising a blood drive programme.

According to Dr Heng, the Blood Bank at Miri Hospital is extremely grateful to NSJA for organising a blood donation campaign to kick start its activities this year.

He told that the hospital’s blood collection had increased by 8.63 per cent or 8,734 pints, making it the second highest among all hospitals in Sarawak.

“In 2018 and 2019, we used 7,365 and 8,258 pints respectively,” said Dr Heng.

He added that in 2019, 67.78 per cent of the donors in Miri were male.

“Our donor range from the 17 to 65 age group, with the highest percentage (16.89 per cent), of donors aged 30-34 years old.

“In terms of races, 46.5 per cent are Chinese, 44.82 per cent natives and 6 per cent Malays,” he said yesterday at the blood drive programme held at Boulevard Hypermarket at Jalan Miri-Pujut.
