MIRI: Minister for Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin is optimistic that Miri Hospital Blood Bank will manage to achieve its target, in collecting 10,000 pints of blood this year, following the strong support received from the local community.

“We are very appreciative of the Miri community’s strong support in blood drive campaigns over the years,” said Lee.

Last year (2023), a total of 9,682 pints of blood were successfully collected.

Met at the blood drive event organised by Inner Wheel Club (IWC) Miri at Myy Mall in Lutong yesterday (Jan 7), Lee expressed the hope Mirians would continue to support blood donation campaigns.

“Blood collected in Miri is not only utilised in Miri hospital, but also by those in need in other health care facilities such as in Marudi, Limbang, Lawas ,Marudi in fact even to Sabah,” he told the local media.

Lee also extended his thanks to the public here for their strong support all these years.

“In fact Miri was the first in the country to achieve 100 per cent voluntary blood donors, meaning we have sufficient blood supply for hospitals. Previously hospitals faced a lot of problems in terms of shortages of blood, including resistance in donating blood, but our volunteers continue to render their services and we managed to overcome this matter. Since then, MRC Miri Chapter has been actively organising blood donation drives,” he pointed out.

Also present were co-organising chairmen, Karambir Singh – MRC blood donor recruitment committee chairman, Cecilia Sman – IWC Miri president and Choong Bor Wen, president of Rotary Club of Oil Town Miri and Blood Bank relation officer Kenneth Numan.
