MIRI: The Malaysian Red Crescent, Miri Branch (MRC) on Sunday (Aug 1) morning held a blood donation campaign and organ pledging recruitment campaign.

The programme took place at the Miri MRC building at Jalan Bulan Sabit here.

MRC Miri began its organ pledging recruitment activities about 22 years ago. It has been at the forefront of the organ pledging recruitment activities here.

The team, currently led by Hani Chow, has been very active over the years in its recruitment activities to get members of the public to sign up as organ pledgers.

In 2021, almost 100 people have signed up for the programme.

“I myself have signed up as an organ pledger about 22 years ago. Thus, I would encourage more people to come forward to pledge their organs,” said Miri Kidney Dialysis Centre and MRC deputy chairman Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

On the Sarawak Day Blood Donation programme which was held on July 22 this year, Lee said 208 people registered to donate blood at the MRC premises and 164 of them donated successfully.

The event was a collaboration between the Miri MRC Blood Donor Recruitment Committee with Miri Thai Poo Association Youth Section and Miri Youth Activities Centre.

Lee thanked donors in the Miri City for their life saving commitment.

The Miri Hospital staff also deserved to be commended for their hard work, he added.

“After the blood was collected, they worked late into the night, up to 1am to process all the 164 pints that were collected,” Lee said.

The blood collected from this campaign was also distributed to Kuching, Sibu and Bintulu.
